Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)

Drivers of vehicles (with a MAM exceeding 3.5 tonnes) are required to hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) as well as their vocational driving entitlement in order to drive commercially.

Drivers must undertake 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to drive a lorry, bus or coach.

You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving professionally without Driver CPC.

Acquired rights.

If you have acquired rights, you can either:

  • complete 35 hours of Driver JAUPT/DVSA approved CPC periodic training
  • take and pass the Driver CPC Module 2 (case studies) and Module 4 (practical demonstration) tests

  • Saturday 9th May 2026- Vulnerable Road Users
